Born in Penns Grove in 1931, Paul Foster became a playwright and an early leader of New York’s experimental theater scene. He was a founding member and the first president of La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club, which gave new playwrights a place to develop and stage their work. His plays included Tom Paine, Elizabeth I, and Satyricon.
